Every heart sings a song, incomplete, until another heart whispers back. Those who wish to sing always find a song. At the touch of a lover, everyone becomes a poet.

There is nothing really that anyone can say about a first love but the ultimate fact that, “No one forgets a first love”. There is also no argument that can refute the fact that crazy things happen and that owes to the amount of innocence that characterized every decision and action taken.

There is also the realization that despite everything all, it was totally worth it and you could do it over again. The memories are ones to be embraced and their teachings are worth learning. It is a gift not many are blessed with.

For those who are lucky enough, they get to find this gift at the first try. They get to understand the standards by which a lady is supposed to think, understand, act, communicate, and also the principles by which she should be governed. And whatever these are, one gets to see which he can accommodate, tolerate or ignore. It all comes down to wanting her even more. It’s a longing for another which no explanation seem reasonable. The reality that it was true and you are sane because at a distance from one another, everything about you changes and suddenly becomes interesting. Everything is a possibility. To love another until communication can be established by mere thought and to become “a single soul inhibiting two bodies”.

But as with every irony of life, time and distance became the final dictate. Paths would be divided and methods towards life will differ but the final goals had already been set. The highest standards have been learned and the happiness had been shared. It is a blessing to cherish.

But as with actions and consequences, matters of the heart are things not to take lightly. Though in the end, a common ground was taken based on understanding, there will always be the pain of letting a loved one go with only a prayer and a hope.  A prayer for the best and a hope that the gift you had been given, falls into the right hand. For he who is lucky to win her heart has been blessed with strength beyond thought, understanding and imagination. She is a gift that is deserving of tender care, trust and affection.

Always and Forever.

We all go through this phase or point in life. “The wakeup call”. A Heartbreak. At this point, there is the sudden realization that everything doesn’t always go as planned. Things could go wrong without warning, excuse, or reasonable explanation.

Heartbreak is hard to fight and bear. It makes one ask questions about everything- details, moments, suspicions, denials, truth and life. It’s painful and weakening. It preys on us. But despite every doubt or pain it may cause, heartbreak has its lessons. It all depends on the choice you make between standing still or moving on.

Light is as she is. She glows, cast a shadow and radiate. In a dark tunnel, she inspires hope. When depressed, she offers relief. When stagnant, she nudges one forward. She is a beauty in her own way and by definition. You can see her experiences by how they have defined her as a person. She is bold, social and funny. A brightening day when needed.

Maganin Duhu

Here is a lady blessed with a gift- one I pray she recognizes and make the most of. She got the attention, won the care, and grasped the heart. Everything was hers but at a mention away and within strength. She needed only to say what and be patient.

I would be but a fool to say she wasn’t worth it. She totally was. The time, attraction, feelings and memories shared were undeniably glorious, and the moments blissful. She is a woman of beauty, intellect and charm. Everything about her is irresistible. The aura of calmness and the zeal of purpose she possesses can be confusing but they always served as a means of strength to push harder and carry on in whatever positive characteristic one possesses. She was elevation to the heart and strength to the soul.

Sad that such a story never played out as was originally planned and designed though. With plans, comes risks and for every risk, there lies danger and opportunity. In the end, all we can hope for is the best. We shall surely find what we seek when we look in the right place and know fully what we want and deserve.

Another memory and another chapter added to the journey of existence. One worth keeping.

E pluribus unum.

I look at her and see a strong woman- Independent, ambitious, courageous. She is full of life and possesses a warm heart. A fighter when the odds are slim. Controversial at times, misunderstood other times. She is a possessor of knowledge and power. She loves company yet cherish an “alone” time. She is an idealist, a humanist, a conformer when sacrifice is needed and most of all, a beautiful woman.

When in need, she can be asked for she offers truth. She knows who she is, where she is headed, what she wants and how best to get them. In her eyes, there is always a silver lining in every event, action and experience. She can relate with your experience and find a justification for an action taken if there is one, or offer truth as best seen.

She has her moments- distant, close by, halfway, confident, undecided, and reserved. These moments are always compensated for in one way or another. She leaves nothing unresolved and learns in an exceptional manner. In her way, she believes in the inherent good in everyone and looks for it on encounter. She also knows the bad that can be in anyone and thus exercise caution in her affairs.

Glorious moments, achievements and adventures await her. I pray she finds it. She is of immense worth, I pray she holds onto it and keep it on increase. She is the exception.

Mon Femme Fatale.

The only constant in life is CHANGE.

It has been a while. Time has passed, memories were created, and friendships were formed while others were broken, pain was felt, hope was held unto, beliefs were tested, risks were taken, experiments were carried out, tests were conducted, opportunities were both lost and utilized, and love was found. NIGERIA, in recent time, has carved a name for itself in the world as the most populous nation on the African continent. This has led to the assertion by many business analysts that it is one of the most promising investment destinations due to the large consumer market it has. As promising and good as this might sound, Nigeria is also a country that is plagued with recurrent political, ethnic and religious crises. This has succeeded in delaying or in most cases stopped investors from tapping into its vast consumer market and so, Nigeria remains a country with vast opportunities but with little to show in terms of development and the welfare of its citizens. You become overwhelmed with happiness, hope and belief. It is rare to have such and when you are given a chance to experience it, you become aware that what you are doing is right and on course. Above & BeyondThere are instances when we decide to base our decisions on assumptions and not facts. There are also, instances when we put together facts to create assumptions which we ultimately decide that since its gotten from facts, then it is indeed a reflection of reality or at least an explanation of it. We can also argue that sometimes, solutions to problems could be gotten by making informed assumptions and taking decisions based on these. But back to the reality that is life and what is of most importance- relationships- assumptions could be deadly. Continue reading

So, What’s It Like Being a White Muslim, Anyway?

The truth will always be put down in a world that has been taken by evil. The basic and simple fact is that everything that ultimately leads to the liberation of souls will always be fought. History has given us insight into the persecution suffered by various generations who were called to truth and the way of Allah. What most non-Muslims fail to understand is the simple fact that all a Muslim desires, is nothing of this world but the hereafter. We may face challenges but as Allah has promised, “there is never a problem without a solution”. Assalamu Alaiykum.

Artificial needs, artificial solutions

Satisfaction can only be gotten when we concentrate on needs and not wants.

Annamal house.

dualMan, I felt like an idiot. It was the summer after my first year of college, and I was at home, gazing upon all the things that hadn’t made it with me to school: remnants of hours spent shopping and scavenging during high school.  Clothes I was never going to wear, or at least never going to wear again; shelves packed with books I would never read; drawers bursting with makeup I never used; half-finished and never-started art projects languishing in boxes on the floor. Man. I really thought these things were going to work. They were going to make me happy. Popular. Smart. Cool. Better.

Conversations with my sister and friends taught me I wasn’t alone in the pastime of collecting and curating new selves month by month. My sister lamented the hours and money she spent trying to become worthy of a sustainable group of friends through…

A Crisis of Immediacy

The world needs to re-asses its priorities.

The Disorder Of Things

I wonder if other writers feel as though they are throwing words by the hopeful fistful into a void, into the place where an audience might be. This hoped-for-reader is on my mind because I feel I should apologise for having taken so long to think these thoughts and align them so that I can throw them into that void.

There is no reason for apologies, however, because my hoped-for-reader doesn’t know that my current thoughts are inspired by a planned but only partly written series of posts from two-and-a-half years ago. Yet I feel I am writing an overdue assignment on the last day of class.

My thoughts are not timely. I worry this means they are no good. This is a strange feeling, to worry not that the words that carry our thoughts are inadequate but rather that they have gestated too long, such that tossing them into…

The Day We Egyptians Lost Our Moment

Inner Workings of My Mind

There is not a shadow of a doubt in my mind that we, the Egyptian people, have been outwitted.

There are very few moments in time that decide the course of history. They come every 50 years, once a century, or even furtherDSC02825 apart. Our generation’s Moment was January 25, 2011. A critical build-up of recent events amassed the emotions of an already seething Egyptian population and our Moment was born. Millions of Egyptians took to the streets for 18 days…blah blah blah… We all know the story. And we know the ugliness that followed.

Providence gave us a moment because we were able to unite as a people when it really mattered. We saw our chance and held onto it for a full 18 days. And that’s why the story ends there. If a Moment is to truly change the course of history, its people must hold onto it…
